I bought this not really knowing what to expect. I was planning a trip that involved hiking and read many reviews recommending the product for even short day hikes (it never hurts to be prepared). I thought it to be an adventure. The life straw is very portable, can easily fit in a pack. We used it at the base of a waterfall and it filtered the water perfectly! Was cleaned as can be! PRO TIP: READ THE DIRECTIONS BEFORE YOU USE THIS. It gives useful tips for first use and what to do after use.
My husband bought this sh*t even though he NEVER goes outside. I guarantee he will NEVER use this. When I say “never”.... I mean it. I give this 5 stars solely based on how happy it made him when it came in the mail. Do not base your livelyhood on this review. If you’re husband watches those stupid survivalist videos, buy him this stupid straw and he will sit on the couch and feel like a true mountain man! Honestly I thought about bringing in that nasty bucket of rain water from outside and making my husband use this straw to drink that nasty water. In fact, I’ll do that tonight. This will be a 2 part review if he gets the e.coli or explosive diarrhea.
This lifestraw is a very powerful tool that is easy to use, compact and will fit in any bag or car console or glove box and filters hundreds of gallons of water.I travel internationally regularly to countries that don't have ready access to drinkable water at times and this is a literal lifesaver. Simply pull it out of the bag, pop off the covers and in a minute or less you are ready to start drinking water. One thing to note is that there is some water you shouldn't drink with this, for example, water contaminated by petroleum. And it will not filter out many viruses so if you'll be in an area where water may be contaminated with viruses then be sure to use something different to purify the water. The lifestraw also does not have a pre-filter so you may want to either strain your water through a t-shirt or other prefilter material to remove sediment and put it into another container before inserting the lifestraw or put a piece of cloth or t-shirt material over the bottom if you'll be drinking directly from the source. This is an item I feel everyone should have in their car, backpack, briefcase, or anything you carry with you daily, especially if you travel internationally to countries that have suspect or not reliable water supplies. Excellent device and very fairly priced.
As soon as this came in the mail, I went over to the dirtiest mud hole I could find down some back roads gravel road. I opened the package while looking over at the muddy hole of bacterial infections waiting to happen. After I opened the lifestraw, I took it out and knealed down so my thirst would subside. I lean in to get a taste of the freshest water I could have ever tasted. Well not exactly the freshest, but cleanest. It takes a little sucking but it was well worth it. From the looks of the water in the mud hole, someone would have to be insain to drink that slop. I did it for this review. Life straw is for those people to have something in case you have no source of water, or you get thirsty and you do not want to boil your water. These are a lifesaver and I will forever have plenty of these on hand for any situation. One thing is for sure, if the you know what hits the fan I will not run out of water.
I would hate to ever really have to depend on one of these, but living in a place where weather can be shifting a lot, it brings peace of mind to kniw, IF when I am hiking or in an emergency, this life straw will save me! You can't live without water.I've kept mine in the originsl wrap to make sure I have instructions. This is one of the onky filters apart from Berkry that I would trust to drink crappy water or from a stream if needed. It's very lightweight and takes minimal space. I have one in my long term bug out bag, 72 hr. bag and in the car.You just never know what your faced with so don't take anything for granted. Be prepared!
